Surfrider, SOLVE schedule Newport-area cleanups for Earth Day

Five beach cleanup efforts will take place Saturday, April 19 across five sites around the Newport area in honor of Earth Day. Registration is open for the annual event, hosted by the Newport Chapter of the Surfrider Foundation in partnership with Stop Oregon Litter and Vandalism. Eugene man dies in Highway 126 crash Thursday east of Florence

FLORENCE – A 37-year-old Eugene man was killed Thursday afternoon when his truck and a semi-truck collided on Oregon Highway 126 six miles east of Florence. Oregon State Police said Mathew J. Lincoln County unemployment rate rises 11 percent over last year

The unemployment rate in Lincoln County reached 5 percent in February, an 11 percent increase over the 4.5 percent jobless rate a year ago. February’s local unemployment rate increased from 4.9 percent in January, according to an Oregon Employment Department news release Tuesday.
