County commission candidate urges change from three to five positions

December 18, 2024
To the editor: After almost a month of waiting for the closest race in Oregon to be called, the official results for Lincoln County Commission Position 2 are in: challenger Rick Beasley, 13,027 (49.53%), versus five-time incumbent (now six) Claire Hall, 13,142 (49.97%). I want to take a moment to express my deepest gratitude to everyone who supported my campaign.

Waldport councilor endorses Claire Hall for county commissioner

November 2, 2024
To the editor: Having served concurrently with Commissioner Claire Hall for some years now, I’ve always known her to be a good leader, knowledgeable and attuned to the needs of the entire county, including Waldport where I continue to serve on City Council after four terms as mayor.  As an appointed member of Lincoln County’s Budget Committee, I see how

Seal Rock resident appreciates Hall’s accessibility and openness

October 16, 2024
To the editor: I want to commend Lincoln County commissioner Claire Hall for being accessible and open to new ideas, for knowing how to get things done, and for her readiness to support her constituents. Three of us went to her some years ago for help in dealing with state and local governments for a nonprofit project we were proposing.

Ex-mayor of Waldport endorses Lambert for position

October 14, 2024
To the editor: I rarely endorse candidates, but I must endorse Heide Lambert to become the next mayor of Waldport in the Nov. 5 general election. She has long been involved with Waldport city government. During the past 10 years she has served on the planning commission, been a city councilor, and served on the budget committee. She knows what

To the editor: I am writing in support of Commissioner Claire Hall’s candidacy to retain her seat as Lincoln County commissioner. I have had the honor of working with Claire in the past while reporting for the Newport News Times, through other organizations, and most recently as a friend. Claire is and continues to be one of the most prominent

Neighbor says Kilduff will add transparency to Waldport city hall

October 11, 2024
To the editor: I have lived across the street from Melaia Kilduff for five years. In those five years I have witnessed her life with her family, I watched as she transitioned from teacher to working from home, and I have seen her step into city leadership with confidence and integrity. Two years ago, following a public conflict with city

Lambert will bring “joyful approach” to Waldport mayor position

October 6, 2024
To the editor: As Waldport’s new mayor, Heide Lambert will bring a plethora of experience, wisdom, and joyful leadership to the role. She will invest in our local children, small businesses, and long-term residents. I met Heide years ago at a community meeting about finding solutions to our local child-care desert. She was serving on the expert panel. I was

County’s deflection process was unnecessarily contentious

October 6, 2024
To the editor: Lincoln County’s deflection program is moving forward.  That is the good news.  The bad news is that the whole process was way more difficult and contentious than necessary. During the Sept. 18 county cCommissioner’s meetings, deflection committee members harshly criticized county staff and commissioners for “lack of transparency.”  Committee members had obviously reached a decision that the
