WALDPORT — A famous Portland appliance dealer years ago said “Free is a very good price.” Waldport-based Sweet Homes Vacation Getaways is seeing if that’s still true.

The local, family-owned vacation home management company is giving away furniture to community members beginning at 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 19, at the former Waldport Middle School gym on the west edge of Louis Southworth Park.
Sweet Homes said the giveaway includes dozens and dozens of nearly new and gently used furniture no longer needed following recent design projects, renovations and updates to 130 rentals it manages on the central Oregon coast. This includes couches, chairs, dining tables, breakfast tables, rugs, bookshelves, beds, lamps and more.
The giveaway is intended for local individuals and families furnishing their own homes, the company said, and the furniture is for personal household use and not for resale. To make the event as fair and accessible as possible, Sweet Homes said quantities may be limited per household so that as many community members as possible have the opportunity to find something.
People wanting furniture must also bring a vehicle and enough help to load their own furniture.
“Our hope is to give these beautiful pieces a second life while helping people right here in our community,” said Sweet Homes owner Todd Korgan. “We have a lot of quality furniture available, and we’d love to see it find its way into the homes of local residents who can use it.”
