To the editor:
We need Kathryn Benfield as our Lincoln County District Attorney.
Our current district attorney’s office has been in embarrassing disarray. Public conflict with our county commissioners, sheriff’s office and other entities which make our court system work smoothly, has marked our current district attorney. The other candidate is closely associated with the current district attorney who seemed to emphasize antagonism and aggression rather than calm problem-solving. She’s a newcomer to our county and a relative newcomer to the law, entering the bar less that 10 years ago.
Kathryn Benfield, on the other hand, has lived and worked in Lincoln County nearly all her live and has practiced law here for over 35 years. Many of us and our families have benefited from her legal expertise and knowledge of the processes and parties which make up our criminal justice system.
She’s worked professionally with law enforcement, the courts, jail staff, mental health professionals and others whose knowledge, experience and professionalism is critical to keeping our legal system efficient and responsive to our needs. She has a clear, working understanding the law and its administration. She will not have a substantial learning curve.
Kathryn Benfield gets along with people. Although our legal system is adversarial, Benfield is not. She gets the job done while continuing to foster strong working relationships with all who work in our criminal justice system. She can work our differences without public animosity, contention and lawsuits. She’s a mature, professional with proven problem-solving skills.
Let’s restore maturity, professionalism, and reliability to our district attorney’s office. Vote for Kathryn Benfield, Lincoln County District Attorney
