WALDPORT – A knock on the door has led to a Waldport Public Library presentation Monday, Oct. 3 by the author of more than 20 books.
The library’s book club is hosting an appearance by Eric Wilson at 6 p.m. Monday, Oct. 3 at the Waldport Community Center.
Wilson’s wife, Carolyn, grew up in Waldport and during a visit last March decided to knock on the front door of her childhood home. The home happened to now be owned by Sharon McCrum, the library’s family outreach coordinator.
McCrum says a connection was made and a friendship formed — which led to meeting Eric Wilson. The author then agreed to meet with the library’s Young Writers’ group to give encouragement and instruction.
The library’s book club then chose Wilson’s books for its September choice of reading.
Wilson has authored 20 books and has nearly one million volumes in print in over a dozen languages. Two of Eric’s thriller books are set in Oregon: “Dark to Mortal Eyes” is set at Heceta Head and “Expiration Date” is set in Junction City. These books fall in the category of Wilson’s “dark” books, McCrun said, and on the “light” side, he writes books like “Facing the Giants,” “Fireproof,” and “Flywheel.”
His most recent non-fiction memoir book titled “American Leftovers” is written with his brother and sister, Shaun Wilson and Heidi Wilson Messner and is scheduled to be released in 2023.
Wilson also leads writers’ retreats, including one being held at the Sylvia Beach Hotel in Newport Oct. 6-9.
