Everyone can fish, clam and crab for free in Oregon on Saturday and Sunday, Feb. 14-15.
No fishing or shellfish licenses or tags, endorsements or validations are required on the two days. Both Oregon residents and nonresidents can fish for free.
All other fishing regulations apply including closures, single rod limitations, bag limits and size restrictions. See the Oregon sport fishing regulations to check regulations.
ODFW’s Recreation Report features the best bets for fishing for the weekend including where rainbow trout are being stocked in Oregon’s ponds and lakes for the weekend.
ODFW said the free fishing weekend is a great weekend to try clamming or crabbing, including how to get started clamming or crabbing including maps of locations, tips and tricks. As of Tuesday, crab, bay clam and mussel harvest are all open coastwide. Razor clam harvest is allowed from the Washington border to Cape Blanco, but closed from Cape Blanco to the California.

There is an unfortunate confluence of this free fishing weekend and a sneaker wave warning for the coast that extends through the end of the weekend Sunday night. People digging clams need to be very very careful.
