NEWPORT — The 16th annual BeJeweled jewelry sale is set for Saturday, May 10, at the Central Coast Assembly Church in Newport.
All proceeds from the “pre-loved” jewelry extravaganza will benefit Food Share of Lincoln County, which is dedicated to eliminating hunger by creating access to food through a network of partner agencies such as food pantries, meal sites, backpack programs, senior outreach and youth programs.
The sale includes more than 2,000 donated pieces of jewelry — everything from vintage pins, earrings and pendants to pearls, jade, and some fine of silver and gold pieces. Handmade artisan pieces include earrings and necklaces made especially for the sale. There is also a table for crafters and artists looking for components to make their own unique pieces.
“There’s no other event like this on the coast,” said Nancy Mitchell, executive director of Food Share of Lincoln County. “It’s a great way to help Food Share by donating your pre-loved jewelry then shopping the sale for treasures new to you.”
“We have dedicated shoppers who come year after year as well as folks experiencing it for the first time,” Mitchell said. “It’s a super-fun, great way to help the community.”
The annual BeJeweled sale, as well as the year-round sales at Rustic Ridge Antique Mall, Nostalgia Estate Sales Antique Mall, Oceanic Arts, and the Food Share of Lincoln County eBay store, raise more than $30,000 per year. That money is used to purchase and distribute food for Lincoln County food pantries and partner agencies.
“The need is greater than ever.” Mitchell said. “We’ve seen about a 19 percent increase in families using food programs in Lincoln County from the last year or two.
Mitchell said recent cuts from the USDA make the county’s food situation even more perilous.
“We’re gonna have less food and still more people to feed,” she said, “The gap is wide, definitely. Coming to the BeJeweled sale is a special way to help out. A little bit of light is needed right now.”
BeJeweled will run from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the church, 236 N.E. Sixth St., with a 1-2 pm break for lunch and half-price 2-4 p.m.
