Whether or not you made it to the Charles Swank retrospective this spring, don’t miss the follow up “Charles Swank: An Art Happening!” at the Yachats Commons on Saturday and Sunday, Aug. 2-3.
Swank has an master’s in fine arts from Yale University. He has exhibited on both coasts, but this is only his second show in Oregon.
The show will feature more than 50 paintings of mostly new work, ranging in size from five square inches to five square feet.
These are not your usual oceans and sunsets. Swank’s paintings are abstracted geometric visions: beautiful, accessible and fun. You may experience them as religious, ethereal and to some, psychedelic.
This is not just an art show, but a real art happening. There will be a “Make Your Own Collage” area where visitors can create original artwork out of Swank scraps, paints and markers. Live music will be provided by Dangerous Dan & Friends. A variety of bookmarks and tiny paintings will be available to take home for free. Food will be available at the “Build Your Own Sandwich” table at no charge, though a donation jar will be available for those who feel compelled.
Prices for paintings are very reasonable, with smaller paintings being sold for “Name Your Own Price.” Enter the door prize to have a chance at winning a painting of your choice from a selection of the works available for sale.
The happening will run from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Yachats Commons. For more information, go to www.pollyplumb.org.
