The always popular and always busy Yachats Lions Club crab feed – with three seatings at two venues — is Saturday, Jan. 25.
Reserved seating for the 4 p.m. session at the Yachats Commons for groups of six or more is already sold out.
But there are plenty of tickets for the 12:30 p.m. session at the Commons and at 4 p.m. at the Lions Club Hall, said chairman David O’Kelley.
The meal includes all the Dungeness crab you can eat, plus beans, cole slaw, bread and a soft drink. People are allowed to bring their own alcoholic beverage into the event.
Tickets are $40 each and are available in advance at the Lions Club Thrift Store and Judith’s Kitchen Tools in the C&K Market shopping center. Tickets are also available at the door.
“There’s always plenty of seating at the 12:30 session at the Commons,” O’Kelley said. “It’s the best for last-minute walkups.”
The event is the single largest fundraiser for the club, O’Kelley said. The three meals usually draw 500 people.
The Lions Club is purchasing 1,500 pounds of fresh crab from South Beach Market in Newport. The Lions Club enlists help from the Angell Job Corps Center and other volunteers to help pull off the event.
It is the 28th year of the event, O’Kelley said. Prior to 1992 it was just a private club event.
“We opened it to the public in 1992 and it just took off,” he said.
Proceeds from the sale go toward the club’s scholarship, community service and vision programs.
