YACHATS — Kids in costumes will have a chance to show off their Halloween garb Saturday, Oct. 25, when the Pacific Coast Wind Ensemble presents its annual Halloween concert.
Beginning at 4 p.m. at the Yachats Commons, the free concert is themed “Cos-tunes,” with songs selected to reflect outfits that trick-or-treaters might wear.
The tunes will include medleys from “The Little Mermaid,” “Pirates of the Caribbean,” “Star Wars” and others. Children are encouraged to wear their holiday costumes to the concert, parade across the stage at intermission, and receive a treat for their efforts.
An added feature for the Yachats concert will be an appearance at intermission of the Yachats Hexenbrut — “witches” who will dance to an international melody that’s played and danced to all over western Europe and North America.
The Pacific Coast Wind Ensemble is made up of amateur wind and percussion players from Oregon’s central coast and the mid-Willamette Valley. The band’s conductor is Ernie Hills, a retired music professor at California State University/Sacramento. This year, he’ll be assisted by Amie Brecheisen and Patrick Jimmerson, both local school music teachers.
The Wind Ensemble has 40 members and practices weekly, alternating between Florence and Waldport. The band is open to all without audition, the only requirements being possession of an instrument, and the ability to read music. Clarinet and percussion players are especially encouraged to join.
