NEWPORT – The city of Newport is accepting applications for a vacant city position after Councilor Ryan Parker resigned in May. The application period opened Tuesday and closes at 5 p.m. Aug. 13.
Newport’s city council consists of six councilors and a mayor – all of which are volunteer positions. The term of the vacant position will expire in January 2027 and will be included on the November 2026 general election ballot.
According to the city charter qualified applicants:
- Must reside in Newport for at least one year immediately prior to an election or appointment to office a registered voter;
- May not be a candidate for election to another city; and
- May not be employed by the city.
To apply for the vacant city council position, interested individuals should submit a resume and a cover letter via email to CityRecorder@NewportOregon.gov or in person to the city recorder’s office at Newport City Hall. The cover letter should outline the candidate’s experience that qualifies them to serve on the city council and why they are interested in the role.
