Lincoln Chronicle enters last days of annual fundraising campaign in effort to use full “matching” donation

The Lincoln Chronicle is in the last stretch of its annual local, reader fundraising campaign that has been extended a few more days until Monday, July 7.

Because of dozens and dozens of generous supporters, the Chronicle, which is published by the 6½-year-old 501c3 nonprofit YachatsNews, reached $31,000 in its campaign as of Tuesday.

With a promised “match” by a previous, generous donor of all new donations, Lincoln Chronicle/YachatsNews hopes to double that to a total of $70,000 if we can receive another $4,000. Because of the busy July 4 holiday this week, we’ve extended the donation matching deadline to Monday, July 7.

All this is an effort to do “More and Better” as we like to say.

With more resources – from reader-donors, grants and advertising – as previously stated we are considering these enhancements to our operation:

  • Revise, improve and launch a redesigned website by September that better displays local stories, obituaries, letters and news from other areas;
  • With that, create an enhanced civic, events and entertainment calendar to help get the word out on activities throughout Lincoln County;
  • Contract with a copyeditor/story producer to help ease the editor’s workload so he can better concentrate on long-range planning and community outreach;
  • Move ahead with the idea of a real estate page that highlights property sales across Lincoln County;
  • Find a way (or someone) to gather and produce a weekly high school sports calendar and results;
  • Contract with a photographer/reporter to cover important, interesting or entertaining weekend events; and
  • Find ways to cover the Depoe Bay and Lincoln City areas better.

So, the staff and board of Lincoln Chronicle is for a few more days asking readers to consider a tax-deductible donation to help us continue and expand our work. Here’s how to do that:

  • Write a check to YachatsNews/Lincoln Chronicle and drop it in the mail to YachatsNews/Lincoln Chronicle, P.O. Box 284, Yachats, Ore. 97498.
  • Donate electronically — either one time – or join the 112 others who make a small ($5-20) monthly contribution via our (sometimes balky) PayPal account.
  • We also have a new way to give – the gifting of stock to an account we have set up at Fidelity Investments. If you are interested in learning more about that, contact me via email at YachatsNews@gmail.com or call me at 503-970-3867.
  • Or, if you own a business or head an organization, you can support us and help yourselves by advertising and getting your message in front of 170,000 readers a month. Our ad director, Tiffany Sullivan of Blue Sprocket Brokerage can be of great help. Here is a link to our advertising rate card and Tiffany’s contact information.

With that, here once again is the mission statement for YachatsNews/Lincoln Chronicle:

“Provide local, professionally-reported, fair, unbiased straightforward news of Lincoln County and the central Oregon coast, its governments, people, community organizations, businesses and the natural environment with an emphasis on good government, transparency, community involvement, civic participation and engagement. Independent, non-profit news. Free to all, funded by readers.”
