Rainfall on the central Oregon coast settled down to mostly just about average in February, according to weather watchers for YachatsNews.
Depending on your outlook, that’s OK given that January and February’s rain totals are running about half of the first two months of last year.
In Yachats, the city crews at the wastewater treatment plant recorded 8.09 inches of rain in February – right at their 10-year average — for a year-to-date total of 13.50 inches. Just a block away, weather watcher Adam Altson recorded 8.21 inches of rain in February – almost his exact average the past seven years – and has 14.20 inches for the year.
Julie Bailey, who lives at the 200 foot level on Horizon Hill in Yachats, measured 10.45 inches of rain in February – slightly less than last year – and has a two-month total of 18.08 inches.
Don Tucker, who lives two miles north of Yachats, recorded 9.50 inches in February for a 2025 total of 16.37 inches — half of his total for the first two months of 2024. In 19 years of record keeping, Tucker’s average for February is 8.52 inches.
Jim Adler, who lives three miles east of Yachats in the Yachats River valley, recorded 12.65 inches of rain in February – two inches more than his 16-year average for the month. His total for the first two months of 2025 is 22.19 inches.
Bob Williams, who lives eight miles up the valley, measured 16.23 inches of rain in February – 7.05 inches that fell between Feb. 22-24. His two month total for 2025 is 26.95 inches.
Other notes:
- Adler: His February rain total was a bit of an outlier for the group. “I have recorded only three wetter Februarys in the past 16,” he said.
- Bailey: Seven days of no rain and three straight days of more than an inch of rain: 1.73 inches on Feb. 22; 1.54 inches on Feb. 23; and 1.17 inches on Feb. 24.
- Altson: Has added a web camera to his weather website and is available at Yachats Camera.
