WALDPORT – The Port of Alsea is once again seeking applicants for the position of port of manager.
The part-time position is 24 hours a week 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday through Friday during the winter and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday during the summer. The starting salary, after a $19-an-hour training period, is $40,000 to $45,000 a year, the Port said in posting the job announcement, although hours and salary may increase over time.
The port went through the application, hiring and training process in the spring, but manager-candidate Ron Graves of Waldport resigned in late May after not receiving a commitment from the board that he would indeed take over as a full-time port manager in the fall, when longtime manager Roxie Cuellar hoped to retire.
Because of a decline in Port revenue, the position is now listed as part-time.
The port manager is responsible for all port operations, the announcement said, and much of the job is administrative, managing payroll, reconciling bank accounts, making moorage reservations and selling annual launches. The port is a government entity which means a state required budget process and annual audits.
The Port of Alsea district stretches from an area south of Seal Rock through Waldport, east to the Lincoln-Benton counties line and south through Yachats to Lane County. It is overseen by a five-member board and the manager, who is responsible for preparing the budget, which is about $500,000 a year.
