YACHATS — A leisurely drive “up river” will yield a summer bounty of goods when the 14th annual Yachats River Valley Farm Tour kicks off Saturday, Aug. 10.
Free and open to the public, the tour invites locals and visitors to support the work of eight participating small farms along Yachats River Road and its north and south fork roads.
From 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. shoppers can visit the farms and choose locally grown and produced products, including fruits and vegetables, baked goods, plants, beef and eggs, handcrafted pottery, soaps and jams.
At some locations with greenhouses, organizers advise that it’s “Best to go early as they get very hot.”
Farms on the tour and their offerings are:
- Seeds of Oregon, 1603 Yachats River Road: vegetables, plants, beef and eggs;
- Little Red Coop, 4546 Yachats River Road: baked goods;
- River of Grace, 8098 Yachats River Road: garlic and herbs;
- Forks Farm/Dragonfly Farm, 8 North Fork River Road: blueberries, cut flowers, jams and produce;
- River Wind Farm, 8402 South Fork River Road: fruits and vegetables;
- Rasa Clay Works/Billow Cloud (at River Wind Farm): handcrafted pottery and sea water soaps;
- Yaquina Nursery, 9724 South Fork River Road: succulents and cactus; and
- The Ranch, 10740 South Fork River Road: baked goods and jams.

As a local, here are some things to watch for…
1) The speed limit on the Yachats River Road (YRR) is the same as Hwy. 101…55 mph…so please pull over if you’re going slower than the speed limit to allow other vehicles to pass you…this is the law. [ORS 811.512 Unlawfully operating low-speed vehicle on highway]
2) Bicyclist may be on the road and most purposely ignore their legal responsibility to pull over to allow you to pass in your faster moving vehicle, so please drive as safely as you can.
3) Lincoln County recently sprayed a very toxic herbicide (HighNoon) along both sides of the YRR, so if you’re thinking of picking blackberries, be warned.
Nobody in their right mind drives 55 mph on Yachats River Road. I haven’t once come across bicyclists endangering themselves by insisting on staying in the lane of traffic.

I’m glad you’ve only encountered respectful bicyclists who have pulled over in order for you to safely pass them without crossing the double yellow line and endangering possible traffic coming the opposite way through most of the 7 miles of the YRR.
I’ve heard neighbors’ reports and even witnessed some close calls in these situations, and pray that everyone be safe.
BTW – I didn’t make the Oregon traffic laws, I only abide by them.
