WALDPORT — The city of Waldport is accepting applications for the position of mayor and three council seats for the Nov. 5 general election.
Anyone wanting to run must fill out an application, complete the filing process and submit it to the Lincoln County clerk’s office no later than 5 p.m. Aug. 27. It is suggested mailed forms be sent by Aug. 20 to ensure receipt.
Candidates must be registered to vote at the time of the election and have resided within the city for one year immediately preceding the election.
Applications are available at city hall and on the county clerk’s website.
The mayoral term is two years ending Dec. 31, 2026. The council member terms are four years ending Dec. 31, 2028.
Two-term mayor Greg Holland has announced he will not seek re-election. Melaia Kilduff, who was elected to the council in 2022 for a two-year term that ends Dec. 31, has announced she will run for mayor. Councilors Jayme Morris and Greg Dunn plan to seek re-election. Dunn is seeking a third term and Morris a second.
Waldport city manager Dann Cutter asked prospective candidates to keep in mind local elections are not partisan but focused on the day-to-day functions of the city.
“Waldport prides itself on the calm well-reasoned council governance over the years, which has avoided a lot of the council drama seen in other cities,” Cutter told YachatsNews. “This stability has resulted in significant progress on projects and debt paydown over the last few years. We embrace and welcome those who want to serve their community.”
