WALDPORT — A 66-year-old Waldport woman is due in Lincoln County circuit court Dec. 11 to be arraigned on five felony and misdemeanor charges stemming from a Nov. 24 crash on U.S. Highway 101 one mile north of Waldport that closed the highway for several hours
Angela M. Sherlock is accused of third-degree assault, fourth-degree assault and three counts of recklessly endangering others. Sherlock was lodged in the Lincoln County Jail for three days following the crash, but released Nov. 27 because of jail overcrowding.
In a probable cause affidavit, Oregon State Police Trooper Scott Severson wrote that he responded to an accident at 3:18 p.m. Nov. 24 one mile north of Waldport. Witnesses told Severson that a southbound Toyota pickup drove into the northbound lane, forcing the car of Clayton Love, 70, of Seal Rock into the southbound lane, where it collided head on with a Dodge pickup. It took firefighters 20 minutes to cut Love out of his Buick, Severson said.
The probable cause affidavit said there were six witnesses to the accident who said the Toyota pickup “swerved multiple times” before the crash. Two witnesses followed the Toyota pickup and took down its license plate number.
Severson said he and sheriff’s Deputy Garrett Brawdy went to the address listed for the truck, that Sherlock answered the door and told them she was the only person who drove it. The affidavit said Sherlock told the officers she had gone to Newport to get prescriptions for a neighbor.
Severson said he arrested Sherlock for reckless driving and took her to jail during which “she appeared to be sleeping most of the way …”
A field sobriety test showed signs of impairment, Severson’s affidavit said, but Sherlock’s breath sample showed no alcohol use. He then had to get a search warrant to get a urine sample to test for drugs.
