WALDPORT – The Port of Alsea board will interview all five people who applied for a soon-to-be vacant board seat during a special meeting at 2 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 5.
Longtime board chair Rob Bishop, who was re-elected in May, is resigning effective Oct. 19.
Following the interviews, the five-member board could select someone at its Oct. 5 meeting or wait until its regularly scheduled monthly meeting on Oct. 19, said Port manager Roxie Cuellar.
The five applicants are:
- James Allen, Waldport. In his application, Allen said he is retired, grew up in Waldport and wants to preserve and protect the area’s natural resources;
- SeaHeart Elan, Waldport. In her application, Elan said she is a semi-retired licensed massage therapist and permaculture consultant, grew up on a river in Pennsylvania, has sailed and kayaked and served on nonprofit boards and worked in public relations and publishing;
- Ronald Graves, Waldport. In his application, Graves said he has worked at Alsea Bay Power Products and in yard maintenance, is an “avid user” of Port facilities and wants to serve the community;
- George Gray, Waldport. In his application, Gray said he owns a tub, shower and cabinet refinishing company and that the Port is vital to the use and protection of the Alsea River and bay; and
- Peter Adolph, Yachats. In his application Adolph said he is a former Coast Guardsman, owned three commercial dive vessels in Washington, and managed a fish plant in La Push, Wash.
In their applications, all five stressed the need for a new board member to learn the Port’s history and policies and to become a team player united toward a common goal.
