Three members of the Oregon Coastal Caucus – a group of eight coastal legislators– will be in Yachats from 10 a.m. to noon, Saturday. Aug. 3.

The informal question and answer session will be in the pavilion just west of the Yachats Commons.

Attending will be Reps. Caddy McKeown, D-Coos Bay, and Dave Gomberg, D-Lincoln City, and Sen. Arne Roblan, D-Coos Bay.

The Oregon Coastal Caucus is a bipartisan group of state senators and representatives whose districts include portions of the Oregon Coast.

The legislators work to seek solutions and advocate for the interests of coastal communities. Many of those interests overlap with the needs and interests of other rural areas.

“The Coastal Caucus gives the coast much more volume in the state Capitol than each of us might be able to provide on our own,” Sen. Betsy Johnson, D-Scappoose, told the Coos Bay World newspaper in January. “We represent a vast coastline and the views on the north coast don’t always mesh with those on the south coast. That makes it especially important for us to meet as a group to talk through solutions to our common issues.”

McKeown, whose district includes the Yachats area, was elected to the Oregon House in 2012. She is a former Port of Coos Bay commissioner.

Roblan, whose district includes Yachats, was elected to the Oregon Senate in 2016 after serving four terms in the House. He is a retired high school principal.

Gomberg was elected to the Oregon House in 2012. He owns kite shops in Lincoln City and Seaside.

The caucus has also scheduled its annual conference for Aug. 21-22 in Florence. The theme this year is “Infrastructure Investments: A Collaborative Approach” with sessions on education, workforce development, housing, water, and economic and community development.
