YACHATS – The Yachats Lions Club’s annual fundraising crab feed is returning to in-person dining Saturday as the Covid pandemic fades and Oregon’s commercial Dungeness crab season reopens. The deadline for ordering tickets is noon Wednesday.
The pandemic forced the crab feed to on-line ordering and takeout meals the past two years. But the club is still making adjustments.
It will not be an “all-you-can-eat” event, said event coordinator Kevin Yorks, but crab meals with the option to buy extra crabs. The meal will consist of one whole local Dungeness crab, coleslaw, baked beans and homemade bread. The cost is $45 per person and tickets are available for sale online at the Lions Club’s website.
People can select from three seating options and order as many meals as they like, including the option of adding up to two extra crabs per meal purchase.
The Lions are offering three seatings – 4 p.m. at the Lions Hall and 12:30 p.m. and 4 p.m. in the Yachats Commons multipurpose room. The 4 p.m. seating at the Commons will be for groups of six or more with reserved tables.

“We are very pleased to be offering the in-person event as we have done for so many years,” said Yorks. “We get great support from the community and local businesses in Yachats, Waldport and Newport.”
The club purchases the cooked and cleaned crab from the South Beach Fish Market in Newport. After 45 days of delays, the Oregon commercial season opens Sunday.
Proceeds from the annual crab feed and Yachats Lions Thrift Store funds the 73-year-old club’s charitable giving. Last year the club gave more than $30,000 in college scholarships and donations to community organizations and nonprofits.
