I received report of a theft from a vehicle at the Devils Churn State Park. A purse was stolen, and the suspect had already used one of the credit cards at the Fred Meyer in Florence. I responded to Fred Meyer, spoke with Loss Prevention, and watched video of the transaction. I will show the picture around the office to see if anyone recognizes the suspect.

Narrative Summary
While on patrol, a citizen flagged me down on SR 229 near mile post 27. The man told me he recently reported to Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office the theft of multiple chainsaws and other tools stolen from his property. He told me that he could currently hear a chainsaw being used up the hill on adjoining private timber land. Lincoln County deputies and Oregon State Police responded to the location and conducted a search on the private timber land and located a suspect trespassing and building a makeshift shelter out of fallen trees. The suspect eluded on foot into a gulley, where he hid. Multiple K9 units responded to the location, where they located and apprehended the suspect. The suspect was taken into custody and medically cleared to be lodged in jail for multiple crimes and active warrants. Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office, Benton County Sheriff’s Office, and Pacific West Ambulance assisted on scene.

On 8/25/22 at approximately 5AM a southbound vehicle crashed into the ditch near milepost 24 on Highway 229 south of Siletz, Oregon. The driver showed signs of impairment and was taken into custody. Driver provided a breath sample and urine sample for further analysis. Breath sample measured a .00% blood alcohol level. A neighbor assisted in removing the vehicle from the ditch. Toledo Police assisted in the investigation.

eCrash – On 8/26/22 at approximately 4PM a log truck pulling a fully loaded trailer turned east onto Highway 20 from Harlan-Burnt Woods Road. As the truck turned east, the trailer overturned. The log bundle remained intact within the wraps and dumped onto the roadway in the center turn lane. Vehicles were able to continue east and westbound around the bundle. A self-loader responded and uprighted the trailer and recovered the logs. One lane was closed for approximately thirty minutes while highway was cleared.

The driver was cited and released at the hospital in Newport before being transferred to another hospital for a higher level of care.
