Quinton Smith The seven-member Waldport city council meets once a month, but councilors are assigned to other city or regional committees. The mayor’s position and four council seats are up for election Nov. 8.

WALDPORT – There will be lots of opportunities in November to join the Waldport city council – you just have to file some paperwork this month to get on the ballot Nov. 8.

There will be elections for mayor and four council positions in the general election.

Waldport voters elect a mayor every two years and some of the six councilors every four years. Usually there are three council seats are up for election – but this year there is an additional election because of an open position vacated by Heide Lambert in March after she became Yachats’ city manager.

The current mayor is Greg Holland, who has already filed for re-election. He was a councilor before being elected mayor in 2020.

Three council members will be elected from a field of candidates who file for the four-year terms that begin January 2023.

Those positions are currently held by Sue Woodruff, Jerry Townsend and Rick Booth. All three have filed or intend to file for election.

The only other person to file for a council seat so far is Melia Kilduff, daughter of Seashore Family Literacy founder Senitila McKinley.

Seperately, voters will also get to choose someone to fill the remaining two years of Lambert’s term, which ends in December 2024.

There are only two requirements to file – a candidate has to be a resident of the city for 12 months prior to the Nov. 8 election and be an Oregon voter with the registration in the city.

Candidates need to fill out Form SEL 101 downloaded from the Oregon Secretary of State’s Office and turn it in to the city by 4 p.m. Aug. 26. Candidates wanting to be in the Lincoln County voters pamphlet need to fill out forms with the county clerk’s office. And, there are campaign finance registrations that also must also be completed with the Secretary of State – even if a candidate doesn’t expect to spend much money.

For more information, contact the city of Waldport, or go to the filing information on the city’s website.
