YYFAP’s annual fundraiser is 2-5 p.m. Sunday to benefit its children’s programs

YACHATS – Three hours of family fun is on tap Sunday with a local non-profit’s festival and fundraiser following the Yachats Farmer’s Market.

When the market on West Fourth Street closes at 2 p.m., the afternoon keeps going with a three-hour event at the pavilion behind the Commons to benefit the Yachats Youth and Family Activities Program.

The event features a cake/wine walk, a raffle, giant outdoor lawn games, free hot dogs, popcorn and beverages, and a bake sale. If weather isn’t favorable, the activities will move into the Commons’ multipurpose room.

“We want to provide a fun, family-friendly event that incorporates the raffles, wine and dessert from past events, but provide something that all can participate in,” said Patricia Hettinger, YYFAP’s executive director.

In pre-Covid years, YYFAP staged a dinner theater/music event to raise funds, but the catered affair was a bit expensive for some. The wine and dessert elements of past affairs were very popular, and so have been incorporated into the Sunday fundraiser.

The cake/wine walk (wine for only those 21 and over) is $5 per ticket, with walks every 15 minutes beginning at 2:30. The format is like musical chairs with numbered spots. When the music stops, whoever is on a number drawn can select a dessert or bottle of wine.

The fundraiser will also feature a raffle, with tickets from $1 to $2 each. Prizes include restaurant certificates, plants, toys, painting, and a round of golf at Crestview Golf Club.

All proceeds will help fund YYFAP’s summer programs, which are expanding this year. Seashore Literacy in Waldport, a non-profit, is not planning to run summer camps this year, so YYFAP has 54 children lined up, more than in summers past. As a result, YYFAP plans to offer camps and programs at the Commons for children age 3 to 5 and 5 to 12.

YYFAP is a decades-old nonprofit that provides childcare and pre- and after- school programs during the school year, and activities for children and families during the summer.
