17 local groups among the 38 to receive quarterly grants from Siletz Tribal fund

SILETZ — The Siletz Tribal Charitable Contribution Fund has distributed $123,344 to 38 organizations as it continues its quarterly donations to nonprofit groups. Seventeen of the organizations were in Lincoln County or western Benton County.

The seven-member charitable fund advisory board has distributed more than $15.4 million since its inception in 2001 using proceeds from its casino in Lincoln City.

In Lincoln County or western Benton County, the following groups received donations:

  • Lincoln City Cultural Center: $5,000 for sponsorship of the exhibit Washed Ashore: Art to Save the Sea;
  • Alsea Community Effort: $1,700 for tools, components and manuals for hands-on training at Alsea Charter School to build and use ham radios;
  • Eddyville Charter School: $600 for spiny dogfish sharks for dissection to learn about body systems;
  • Oregon Coast Aquarium: $2,500 for reduced admission fee program for Lincoln County residents and school field trips;
  • Oregon Coast Community College: $5,000 to replace desktop computers in Newport computer lab;
  • Siletz Valley Friends of the Library: $670 for liability insurance for members and volunteers;
  • Toledo Elementary School: $1,492 for the Inquiry Project: Investigating Earth Materials curriculum kits for fourth-grade classes;
  • Elakha Alliance: $5,000 stipends for Native youth interns, software, supplies and supervision-related costs to elevate the youth voice in sea otter restoration;
  • Coastal Range Food Bank, Blodgett: $2,000 for food to assist people within the service area;
  • Siletz Community Thanksgiving Dinner Committee: $3,170 for food boxes with turkeys and other supplies to cook a Thanksgiving meal to distribute to families in need;
  • North Lincoln County Historical Museum, Lincoln City: $1,859 to purchase and install signs and acrylic donation boxes;
  • Central Coast Humane Society, Newport: $5,000 to subsidize rabies vaccinations for dogs and cats;
  • Oregon Coastal Quilters Guild, Newport: $2,000 for batting/filling for handmade quilts to be presented to Lincoln County veterans;
  • Altrusa International of Yaquina Bay, Newport: $4,000 for program to provide emergency clothing, shoes, coats and hygiene products to Lincoln County schools;
  • Blodgett-Summit Rural Fire Protection District: $3,100 to replace AEDs for use by fire and emergency volunteers;
  • Central Coast Fire and Rescue, Waldport: $2,500 for firefighting hoses of various diameters;
  • Yachats Rural Fire Protection District: $4,500 for firefighting turnouts, boots, gloves, thermal imaging camera and hose nozzles;
