Five beaches in Lincoln County are among the 20 to be monitored for bacterial issues by two state agencies this summer and fall.
The beaches monitored by the Oregon Health Authority and Department of Environmental Quality includes some of the most frequently visited beaches in Oregon. They also include beaches where the agencies have has found bacteria present, or beaches for which local health agencies and the public have requested monitoring due to potential pollution concerns.
In Lincoln County the beaches that will be monitored include: D River State Park, Beverly Beach, Agate Beach State Park, Nye Beach, and Seal Rock State Park.
On Friday, the Oregon Health Authority issued a public health advisory for unsafe levels of fecal bacteria in ocean waters at D River Beach, saying that people should avoid direct contact with the water in the area until the advisory is lifted.
Others are:
- Clatsop County: Beaches in Seaside and Cannon Beach, and Tolovana State Park;
- Tillamook County: Oceanside, Cape Kiwanda, Short Sand Beach State, Rockaway Beach, Twins Rocks Beach, and Neskowin State Park Beach;
- Lane County: Heceta Beach;
- Coos County: Bastendorff Beach and Sunset Beach State Park;
- Curry County: Hubbard Creek Beach, Harris Beach State Park, and Mill Beach.
The beach monitoring season is from mid-May to mid-September. Beach advisories are only issued for beaches that are actively being monitored within this sampling window. For more information and current beach monitoring conditions go to www.healthoregon.org/beach
