The popular Yachats Farmers Market bustles back into action from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Mother’s Day — Sunday, May 9 — and each Sunday through Oct. 17.
Market coordinator Jennifer Fredricksen said more than 20 vendors will be at the first weekend opening on West Fourth Street adjacent to and behind the Yachats Commons.
Wares from farmers and artisans will include fresh, locally grown produce, food products and locally-made craft items. In years past, about 40 vendors were on hand, but that number got sliced last year during pandemic restrictions.
Masks will be required for everyone — vendors, volunteers and shoppers — age five and over and there will be no exceptions for those who have been vaccinated. In addition, the market will be following the Oregon Farmers Association COVID-19 regulations: social distancing, limiting shopper numbers if necessary, and having a compliance officer on hand to monitor safety. No dogs or other pets will be allowed. Volunteers will be wearing green T-shirts.
The Yachats Ladies Club will staff a booth at the market entry with masks available for sale. This year, Bread & Roses will be part of the market while operating inside their store on Fourth Street, with pizza on the menu, as well as their standard items.
“While we are staying true to ensuring a safe market, we hope to have a few musical guests join us,” said Fredricksen, who is also general manager of Yachats Brewery. She urged those interested to check for updates at the market website.
In Waldport, that city’s weekly market begins this Wednesday, May 5, running from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the parking lot of the Community Center. The Waldport Beachcomber Days Committee is organizing the market this year.
