An 86-year-old Waldport man died Monday morning on Oregon Highway 20 just east of Toledo when his car crossed into the path of an oncoming log truck.
Max Metcalf was killed about 10:50 a.m. Monday, said Oregon State Police. Police said Metcalf was driving east when his Honda Accord lost control and slide into the opposite lane and collided with a log truck operated by Rodney Smith of Philomath.
Metcalf died at the scene. Smith was not injured.
The highway was closed intermittently for five hours following the crash.
