Thank you.
Thank you for the generosity of your donations and support during our annual reader fundraising campaign in June.
Dozens and dozens of readers, one civic organization and an Oregon foundation combined to contribute a total of $55,200 during the campaign. Because another donor, for the third year, promised to match all contributions, your generosity is turning into $110,400 to support our 2026 operations.
This is the largest total in our five years of asking for help to fund our nonprofit.
This is just a final note to everyone announcing the results of the campaign, to let you know this is a big deal for us — and to thank everyone.
While the Lincoln Chronicle is in solid financial shape, our growing operation requires more financial resources to keep providing free, professionally-reported local news in Lincoln County. The results of the June campaign will allow us to keep intact our current operations and provide impetus to continue to “Do more and better,” as I like to say.
In the past year, we have added a second full-time reporter based in Newport, redesigned and improved our website, and expanded our news, event and real estate offerings. Through our growing partnerships with other Oregon news operations, we can also provide – again without any cost to readers – access to reports from across the state that may be of interest to coastal residents.
Our operating budget for 2025 is $185,000. Previously, some 65 percent of our operating funds came from readers, 20 percent from grants and 15 percent from paid advertising. Grants to Oregon media nonprofits like Lincoln Chronicle are generally shrinking, so we need to rely more on readers and expanded advertising to support our work.
While the focus in June was one-time donations, I want to call out and specifically thank 145 supporters – you know who you are — who over the years signed up to each month donate between $3 and $100. These readers help provide a small financial base to help cover our monthly operating expenses. So, a big thank you to those monthly donors. (If you too want to join this generous group, go to our revised “donation” page to sign up.)
If you missed the opportunity to donate in June, below is our last reminder how to do it. But otherwise this is the last you’ll hear our request until December, when we run a short campaign aimed at donors wanting to make a tax deductible contribution by year’s end.
A check: If you want to donate by check, make it out to Lincoln Chronicle and mail it to P.O. Box 284, Yachats, Ore. 97498.
Online via PayPal: Others prefer to donate electronically — either one time or via smaller, monthly amounts. Our revised and updated donor page can handle both methods. Go here to make a one-time donation or set up an automatic monthly donation, which 145 readers currently do.
Advertise: Or, if you own a business or head an organization, you can support us and help yourselves by advertising and getting your message in front of 170,000 readers a month. Our ad director, Tiffany Sullivan of Blue Sprocket Brokerage can be of great help. Here is a link to our advertising rate card and Tiffany’s contact information.
YachatsNews, the publishers of Lincoln Chronicle, is a 501(c)3 nonprofit and any contribution is tax deductible under IRS rules. Our federal EIN is 92-0324739.
I’ll leave you with our mission statement:
“Provide local, professionally reported, fair, unbiased straightforward news of Lincoln County and the central Oregon coast, its governments, people, community organizations, businesses and the natural environment with an emphasis on good government, transparency, community involvement, civic participation and engagement. Independent, non-profit news. Free to all, funded by readers.”
Thank you for reading and for your support.
