YACHATS — In what’s become a Yachats tradition, the 36 banners that have enlivened downtown since July will be auctioned off from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 20.
During the event in the multipurpose room of the Yachats Commons, guests can bid on the original artworks in both live and silent auctions, accompanied by live music, food, beer, and wine.
Now in its eighth year, the Yachats Banner Project showcases creative designs by local volunteer artists, applied to canvas banners measuring 18 inches by 48 inches.
Raw, primed banners were distributed to artists in February. Then, the artists’ designs are applied using acrylic paints. After completion, the banners were hung on light posts along U.S. Highway 101 in downtown Yachats. The project is coordinated by Yachats artist Michael Guerriero, with sponsorship and assistance from Polly Plumb Productions.
Proceeds from the auctions are used to support arts programs and fund the project for the following year.
Guerriero also prints notecards from the banners. Previous years’ works on notecards are available at the Yachats visitors center in the C&K Market plaza.
